Bird Girl was sculpted by Sylvia Shaw Judson in 1936 and made famous by the best selling non-fiction novel and movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil by John Berendt.
After the release of the book, the original statue was removed from the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA and currently resides in a museum in downtown Savannah. Bird Girl has become one of the most recognized sculptures in America.

I received the statue but it was damaged. A large crack in the head, evidently because the package was severely dropped in the delivery process as evidenced by damaged box. After seeing the movie a trip to Savanna was a “must do” And of course we had to make sure we saw the original “little Wendy”.
And so the “bird girl” became a “gift to ourselves for Christmas” A more or less automatic visit to Amazon.com was somewhat disappointing as shipping was an additional cost. A subsequent visit to Potina.com not only showed that the bird girl was available but included free shipping plus anticipated delivery before Christmas. And they came thru………..delivery was within about a week of placing the order. The “bird girl statue” was everything I had expected and more. The finish is superb and the statue itself is unexpectedly heavy considering its method of construction……..a very pleasant surprise. has a nice decidedly “heft” to it. We purchased the 37.5″ Bird Girl statue for my wife as a Christmas gift. After searching on Amazon and seeing that delivery would not make the holiday in time, I called Potina directly to ask if they had a company they shipped to that might have them in stock. The gentleman gave me a name but then offered to ship to us directly if we could place the order the same day. I did, and they shipped as promised!
The stature arrived in an extremely well packaged box, with foam sprayed in to the box to ensure safe travels.
She is as beautiful as we had hoped and a fantastic replica of the original we had seen during our trip to Savannah a few years ago. The details of her face and buttons is excellent and she has some weight to help her stay in place. Due to our winter weather in Vermont (and the many occasions our two young daughters like to hug her), she is remaining in side for the time being but will be a perfect addition to our new little courtyard.
I strongly recommend both this statue and Potina as a company to deal with.

I received the Bird Girl in about 3 weeks – packaging was great for shipping it from NC to TX! Only problem is that my friend saw and immediately ‘took possession’ of it – she couldn’t get her checkbook out fast enough to pay me. She wasn’t sure she wanted to order one but once she saw it she convinced me to let her take it to her home. I lived in Savannah from 1975 – 85 so the original statue was a part of living in the city. My friend visited Savannah this past year and followed my advice to go tot he museum to see the original. So now I am going to have to place another order!

Just like the rest of you here, we too have been wanting the Bird Girl ever since reading and watching the movie ” Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” there is something about the serene feeling you get while looking at her. Over the past several years we have been vacationing in Tybee/Savannah and have visited the most peaceful cemetery on earth, Bonaventure Cemetery and for the first time in 2016 we actually went to the Telfair Museum to see her up close. I just want to say that Brian has done a wonderful job with this recreation of her and as I sit here now writing this, I am looking at her with complete amazement of how peaceful she makes you feel.
She was a surprise gift for my wife this Christmas and when I ordered her, Brian was right on top of all my questions. I ordered her on Dec 5th and she was on my front step by Dec 14th in a large well packaged box. I can’t say more how happy I was with her and how well protected she was in the box. The only thing I did was open her up and add some Spanish Moss inside for some special effects for my wife when she opened it. ( you would understand this if you visit Savannah).

After years of considering the purchase of the 37.5″ Bird Girl I finally ordered one for my garden in Europe. It arrived in excellent shape. I had spoken to Brian just after the purchase to tell him that I plan on having it shipped in a container to Europe and asked if he could make sure that foam would be used in the entire carton to minimize the chances of damage. True to his word that is how the package arrived and it is on its way as we speak. Naturally I didnt open the package here. I will let Brian know when I receive it in Europe about how the package came through. In any case, I appreciate Brian’s help and cooperation in trying to make sure that there would be no damage. An internet search directed me to a number of available vendors whose price for the large statue was $499. Nice status. Is it worth $400? Eh, probably not. It seems grossly overpriced (to me). However, the price is justifiable only because it’s made in the USA, the shipping was free, this is a hard-to-find item, and my mother actually really loves this statue. The statue is exactly as described. The quality is good. The weight is perfect. It’s solid, but not too hefty. Light enough to move, as necessary. Impressive packaging. Believe me, I have 100% confidence in the seller’s packaging of this item. It arrived on time. The grandkids love it, as it’s just about their height. It stayed on my enclosed front porch for several weeks but I finally put it out front and it is just gorgeous. I’ve wanted this statue for about a year. She’s finally here and she didn’t disappoint. She arrived safe and sound because of excellent packaging. Here’s the problem: it took me three days before I felt I could remove her from our entry way inside the house. Yes, yes, I know, she’s supposed to be outside feeding birds. Well, that’s the other thing. Do I want birds to land on her? She does look beautiful in our front landscaping. However, I’m thinking she could be in the house safe and sound holding two African violets.

If I could give you 20 stars I would. My husband gave me the 28 in. Birdgirl for my birthday last year and Iove it so much I’m afraid to put it outside! I had a delightful conversation with Brian who assured me it could be left outside but for now it is just too precious to me. Now I am saving my pennies for the Little Gardener. Hi Brian, We first saw the Bird Girl 8 years ago when we visited Savannah. Since then we have wanted her but since we live half a world away in Perth Australia, we couldn’t decide on what size to buy and how to get it to us. With so many cheap imitations on the market, I am so glad we waited long enough to discover Potina as you had the authorized replica plus a range of sizes. We decided to order the 37.5 inch version.
As you know we took advantage of your free delivery to LA. Unfortunately we gave you the wrong address of our friend. Fortunately you sorted it out at cost to yourself for which you refused recompense. Many thanks for that. My friend found an international delivery service that charged less than half of FedEx. So this week we received the Bird Girl in one piece (great packaging!) and isn’t she a beauty! The quality of the workmanship is much more than we expected. We want to place it in our front garden facing the street but now we’re concerned that it will be stolen because it looks so beautiful! We’re thinking of bonding it to a heavy limestone or concrete plinth. My wife is very happy (and by extension I’m happy, haha). We commend you for selling us such a well crafted product that is a faithful replica of the original and also of the excellent service you rendered to enable us to receive it. Maybe instead of stealing our Bird Girl we’re asked where to get it. Of course the answer will be Potina.com!

The first time I saw the Bird Girl was on the movie and later when I went to Savanah, my two best friends gave me the Bird Girl as a present. Looks beautiful in my small garden. This garden is very special to me because I build it in memory of my brother Leopoldo Sotillo, he died in 2011.

She is very beautifully made, a true work of art. She will be a beautiful addition to any garden, or special spot in your yard. She was even more lovely than what we had anticipated. She arrived undamaged, very secure and well packaged, and on the date promised. I wanted a special wedding gift and my girl friend loves the Bird Girl. When I picked up a Potina flyer on a garden tour in Charlotte NC, I knew I had to have it. I got the smallest one that fit my budget and my friends have it displayed in a kitchen window that looks out to their yard. Excellent craftmanship. She is beautiful!

I am very pleased with the Bird Girl. I learned about her when I visited Savannah, and thought she would make an unusualy nice garden ornament I have more or less dedicated her to my mother who always fed the birds; as do I. The bird girl is a focal point in my yard. One which I can see from my dinning room.

I live in Charlotte, NC and I leave all of my statues out all winter. You’re in PA, right? If you experience many weeks of sub-freezing weather in a row, you might want to bring it inside. They’re definitely made to be left outside, but many of my customers in extreme cold climates bring them inside for for extra protection.

My bird girl did take the full 3 weeks to arrive but she was worth the wait. She is so beautiful. I bought her for a friends birthday and I didn’t want to give her away, I wanted to keep her. She came in a very well packaged box. I did email potina about her expected arrival date and their response was immediate. Great customer service. Hi Coleman. Yes, there will always be variances in the finish coloration. Even though we only have a couple of guys that do all of the finishes for our statues, no two will ever be exactly alike since the statues are all totally hand painted.
